Shipping vs Checking Bags
Saturday, December 31st, 2011There are a lot of people who travel and don’t really worry about checking their bags, but the reality is a lot of luggage is lost each year by the airlines. Unfortunately, it generally ends up in a giant warehouse full of lost luggage because nobody reclaims it and the owner cannot be found. It is for this reason that some people decide not to check their bags and try to take everything on the plane with them. These days though it is hard to take everything on the plane because even things as small as a laptop computer case for kids backpacks can barely fit on the plane, let alone suitcases.
For people who would rather not place their luggage under the plane, there are some interesting options, although they can be quite expensive. One great option is to ship the luggage through the mail, which usually carries less risk as far as things getting lost. Shipping things through the mail also allows them to be insured, which is something that is not available on airlines. There are also specialized shipping services that allow for the shipping of luggage to a destination, although these specialized services are sometimes expensive.
Another way to ensure that luggage isn’t lost is to clearly mark the luggage when it is placed under the plane. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people do not mark their luggage and it is for this reason that many pieces are lost forever and that there are many warehouses of lost luggage.
